How Residential Painters Repair the Common External Paint Issues?

Painting is a tricky and expensive affair, to start with. Be it residential or commercial, external or internal, you have to have your property painted in the best way. This is to ensure that the paint holds on to the surface and lasts for long, justifying your investment and giving that all important protection to your home, more so if it is located in a coastal region like Perth. The salty sea breeze flowing in from the Southern Ocean, which is merely 400 kms from the West Australian capital city, impacts the external paints of properties wearing them down pretty fast. That’s why, the external paints have to be from the best brands and the painting has to be of the highest standard to ward off the depreciation.  We at Pete The Painter Perth would thus, would do whatever it takes to repair and prevent the common issues that plague the external residential paints. Let us have a sneak peek into our preventive measures.

Flaking, Clumping and Cracking of paint

Cracking, flaking and clumping  are the most common phenomenon of paints as they grow old and lose their grip on the surface, and it happens faster in coastal regions. To prevent this from happening, our residential painting experts in Perth would take the following steps:

  • Remove the old flaking and cracking paint using scrapers, heat guns, wire brush or even chemical application, depending upon the severity of the issue.
  • Sand the surface, and then clean and prime the surface comprehensively
  • Repaint the problema areas, using the brush and the roller (if used) properly to avoid too thick or too thin application of paint.

Peeling of paint

This is yet another very common issue that the exterior paints face (the internal paints face it too but that’s beyond the scope of this discussion) and our residential painters in Perth take the following  corrective measures like sanding, cleaning the surfaces and priming it properly before they repaint.

Bubbling or Blistering

When the paint fails to adhere to the surface properly to the surface, or when air or dust particles get between the paint and the surface, these bubbles or blisters occur. To repair them, they will take the following steps:

  • In case the blisters contain multiple paint coats and busting them exposes the bare substrate it’s the moisture issue. Our painters in Perth will suggest repairing the plumbing, and will replace the caulking. They will remove the old paint, and sand, clean and prime the surface thoroughly before repainting.
  • In case the blisters have affected only the previous paint coat, it is only the heat to be blamed. They will simply remove the blisters, the underlying paint and the primer, then sand the surface smoothly and clean it, before priming and repainting.

Alligatoring

Alligatoring refers to the pattern of very intense cracks and crevices in the paint that make the wall look like the skin of an alligator. It starts with wrinkling of the paint, which gradually develops into dense as well as wide rectangular uncouth cracks that overwhelm the entire wall. This happens more with oil-based paints. To repair and prevent the phenomenon from happening, our painters in Como or elsewhere near Perth would”

  • Remove those uncouth scales by scraping and then sanding the surface followed by application of the chemical removers.
  • Then they would rinse to banish all the dust and let the surface dry completely. Then, they would prime the surface and allow it to dry before repainting.

Thus, our painters have plans for each of the ills of exterior paints. So when you see them, just call us and see what difference we can make.
